Though it hadn’t played a game since Dec. 21, the Siletz Valley boys basketball team found itself on the outside looking in at the statewide 1A coaches poll Tuesday when the Oregon School Activities Association released polls for each of the state’s six classifications.

After Siletz Valley made its debut Dec. 24 in the 1A coaches poll with a No. 9 ranking, the voting coaches around the state dropped the Warriors out of this week’s poll. In fact, Siletz Valley didn’t receive enough votes to be listed outside of the poll. No other 1A school received significant votes in this week’s poll.

The last time the Warriors took the court more than a week ago, they saw their five-game winning streak halted on the road at 2A Sheridan in a 61-33 loss. After its scheduled non-league game this past Monday at Falls City was canceled, Siletz Valley stood at 5-2 overall and looked to improve to 2-0 in Mountain West League games on Thursday with a road contest at Mapleton.

Toledo High School, originally scheduled to host an eight-school boys tournament Tuesday through Thursday that was canceled due to the weather, stood just outside of this week’s 2A boys basketball coaches poll. The Boomers (4-4) were ranked third in the state in the preseason coaches poll, but after a 2-3 start, they fell out of the poll on Dec. 14.

This week, the Boomers received 15 voting points, tied with Heppner for the 11th most in 2A. Tenth-ranked Mannahouse Christian Academy, new to the poll this week, received 18 points. Toledo head coach and athletic director Bart Rothenberger said he was working to schedule games, most likely at home, this weekend to replace those canceled earlier in the week. As of the News-Times’ print deadline Wednesday morning, no new scheduled games were confirmed.

No other area boys basketball team was ranked in this week’s boys basketball polls.

The OSAA plans to release boys basketball coaches polls every Tuesday throughout the regular season. Note that coaches polls have no impact on the OSAA’s ratings that form the basis of postseason playoff rankings. The following poll results feature first-place votes in parenthesis, and team records that reflect standings as of Tuesday, when polls were released.
