Toledo nabs third straight win
TOLDEO — The Toledo High School volleyball team scored its third consecutive 2A-4 Sunset Conference victory Monday evening when the Boomers collected a 25-17, 25-23, 16-25, 25-18 home win over Myrtle Point.
With the victory, Toledo improved to 3-2 in league matches and 4-3 overall. As of Wednesday morning, the Boomers sat in third place in the 2A-4 Sunset Conference standings behind ninth-ranked Reedsport (2-1 in league) and No. 4 Coquille (3-0).
No information from Tuesday’s match was available prior to deadline.
The Boomers were slated to face 3A-3 Coast Range Taft in a non-league contest Wednesday in Toledo. At 11 a.m. Saturday, Toledo is slated to host North Douglas before taking the home court at 2 p.m. that afternoon against Alsea.
Cascade def. Newport, 3-1
Newport dropped its third consecutive 4A-3 Oregon West Conference match Tuesday night, falling 25-9, 23-25, 25-15, 25-7 to third-ranked Cascade at Spangler Court in Newport.
The Cubs, who won just six of 24 sets this season entering their scheduled Thursday night league battle at No. 7 Sweet Home, fell to 1-3 in 4A-3 Oregon West Conference play and 1-6 overall with the loss to the Cougars. Details from that match were unavailable as of the News-Times sports’ deadline.
Next week, Newport plays two league matches. On Tuesday, Sept. 28, the Cubs travel to Philomath, before hosting Stayton on Thursday at Spangler Court.
