The Toledo High School volleyball team’s sweep of non-league foe Kennedy highlighted four matches played Sept. 2 that featured local schools.

The Boomers (1-1) posted a 25-21, 25-9, 25-11 win last Thursday in their first match of the season at home.

“Though we struggled in the first set, we still pulled a win out and swept a good team,” Boomers head coach Crystal Taylor Hinds wrote in her media report. “The team was able to find momentum that helped us pull the ‘W’ out.”

Toledo was scheduled to begin 2A-4 Sunset Conference play Tuesday night when the Boomers hit the road to meet Reedsport.

In 1A action played Sept. 2, Eddyville won a 1A-3 Mount West League match at home with a 16-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-15 defeat of Crow in Eddyville. The Eagles, 2-0 in league and 3-1 overall, are slated to return to the court Thursday for a 6 p.m. league match at home against Triangle Lake.

Elsewhere from last Thursday’s volleyball scoreboard, Newport dropped a heartbreaking five-set match at 4A nonconference foe Tillamook and slipped to 0-2. The Cubs, who fell to the Cheesemakers, 25-21, 25-23, 15-25, 19-25, 15-4, were scheduled to travel Tuesday to meet Stayton in Newport’s first 4A-3 Oregon West Conference match of the season.

Also on Sept. 2, Dayton swept Taft in Lincoln City, 25-13, 25-20, 25-15.

Coaching staffs from Newport, Taft and Eddyville Charter had yet to report further information and statistics from matches played Sept. 2 as of the News-Times sports’ Monday deadline.
