TOLEDO — The Toledo High School volleyball team sat alone at the top of the 2A-4 Sunset Conference standings when the month began after scoring a key league victory Sept. 30 on their home court.

The Boomers turned the tables on league-foe Reedsport and dealt the Braves a 15-25, 25-23, 13-25, 29-27, 15-13 loss, avenging a four-set defeat Toledo suffered three weeks earlier at the home of the Braves, and lifting the Boomers to the top of the Sunset Conference standings at 5-2 in league matches, 7-5 overall.

“Reedsport is a solid team that was able to give us a run for our money,” Toledo head coach Crystal Taylor Hinds wrote in her post-match media report after the Boomers won their third straight following a two-match losing skid. “We are so proud of our girls and the grit they had to pull that win out.”

Toledo gets back to Sunset Conference action at 6 p.m. tonight (Wednesday), when the Boomers host intra-county rival Waldport, which enters at 0-4 in league, 2-6 overall. The Irish’s scheduled match last Saturday afternoon at home against Siletz Valley was canceled.

Toledo senior Klaira Flatt said the Boomers, winners of six of their last eight matches, can’t be beaten when they play with the kind of cohesion they’re capable of playing with.

“When we come together like the family we are, no one can stop us,” Flatt said in the media report.
