Despite losing some key cogs from last year’s undefeated team, including first-team All-2A-4 Sunset Conference selection Jaxon Rozewski, photographed during a home game in the spring, coaches from throughout the classification ranked the Toledo High School boys basketball team third in the state in the preseason coaches poll. WILSONVILLE — The Oregon School Activities Association released its 2021-22 preseason, statewide boys basketball coaches polls Tuesday for each of the OSAA’s six classifications.

Toledo High School is the only program ranked among Lincoln County’s six boys basketball programs. The Boomers went a perfect 8-0 during last spring’s abbreviated season, and won a state championship in March 2000 just prior to the onset of the pandemic. Toledo, ranked third in 2A, is expected to return Gunner Rothenberger, a second-team all-2A Sunset Conference selection as a sophomore last school year.

The Boomers need to replace graduated seniors Mason McAlpine, last season’s Sunset Conference Defensive Player of the Year, all-league first-team pick Jaxon Rozewski and honorable mention honoree Markus Cross.

Beginning Dec. 7, the OSAA plans to release boys basketball coaches poll every Tuesday throughout the regular season. Note that the coaches polls have no impact on the OSAA’s ratings that form the basis of postseason playoff rankings. The preseason poll results feature first-place votes in parenthesis, followed by total number of points received.
