The Newport Swim Team saw three swimmers from its competitive club record top-5 fastest swim times in the state when Oregon Swimming released its top-performance report Oct. 1 for the period between Sept. 1, 2020 and Aug. 31 of this year.

“NST had many outstanding swims this past season, even top placings at Long-Course State Champs, but the top 5 ranks all the Oregon club swimmers and the overall depth around the state,” NST head coach John Wray wrote in an email to the News-Times.

In the 8 and under boys category, NST athlete Jay Eibner had the third fastest time in the 25-yard freestyle, the fourth fastest 50 backstroke and 25 breaststroke time and clocked the fifth best time in the state in the 100 individual medley.

Also for the 8 and under boys, Ivan Weisz had the fastest 50 freestyle time for the Newport Swim Team, as well as the fourth best time in the 100 freestyle and was fifth in the 25 butterfly.

Jahan Eibner, competing for Newport in the 11-12 boys category, was fifth in the 200 freestyle and the 200 individual medley and third in the 200 breaststroke.

As a team, the NST ranked third in the 51-100 membership group behind Beaverton Aquatics Club and the Canby Swim Club. NST was fifth the year prior in the team standings.

“The team ranking is a measure of the total number of meet points scored by all NST swimmers during the season,” Wray wrote. “Great job by the entire team in a very difficult season.”
