WILSONVILLE — The Marshfield Pirates garnered six first-place votes to claim the top spot in the 2021 preseason Class 4A coaches poll, released Tuesday by the Oregon School Activities Association.

The 15-coach panel ranked the Pirates’ 4A-SD 4-rival, Marist Catholic, second, though the Spartans did not receive a single first-place vote. Banks is third, followed by Mazama.

The lone representative in the initial coaches poll from 4A-SD 3, the league in which Newport High School competes, is Cascade. The Cougars earned a single first-place vote and are fifth in this week’s poll. Cascade visits Morrow Field on Oct. 15 to take on the Cubs in Newport.

Class 4A football polls are scheduled for release at OSAA.org each Wednesday throughout the regular season. The coaches poll have no impact on ratings for the football postseason.
