SILETZ — The Jewell Blue Jays soared their way to a 72-13 road win Friday night over the Siletz Valley Warriors in 1A-SD 3, 6-play football action.
In the losing effort, Siletz Valley’s second in as many games this season, head coach Reggie Butler Jr. said his young team gained some valuable experience for the road ahead, which includes a rivalry contest this weekend.
“We had a rough one, but the kids hung in there and played until the last play,” Butler said.
Sophomore Joshua Johnson rushed 10 times for 66 yards and a touchdown for Siletz Valley, while senior Trejan Achen caught five passes for 118 yards and a score. Siletz Valley quarterback Chris Bayya was 7-for-13 passing with a touchdown and an interception.
On defense, Achen and Louie Orona collected seven tackles each for the Warriors.
“The boys will continue to work hard and learn from every game,” Butler said.
The Warriors will hit the road for the first time this season on Friday afternoon, Sept. 17, when they meet Lincoln County rival Eddyville Charter (2-0 in league and overall) at 4:30 p.m. in Eddyville.
