Both Newport High School and Siletz Valley Early College academy lost high school football games last weekend the News-Times was unable to attend.

In Tillamook, the 4A-SD 3 Newport Cubs opened the season Friday night and lost a nonconference contest 48-13 to the 4A-SD 1 Cheesemakers. Newport is scheduled to return to the gridiron at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, when they travel to face Seaside at Broadway Field in another non-league road contest.

The Cubs’ first home contest this season is slated for 7 p.m. on Sept. 17 at Morrow Field, when Newport hosts Yamhill-Carlton.

Scoring plays and statistical information from the Cubs’ season-opener were not posted to the Lincoln County School District’s game reporting portal, nor provided to the News-Times sports department prior to its Monday deadline.

The Siletz Valley Warriors, who entered the week ranked fifth in the 1A, 6-player preseason coaches poll, lost 47-19 at home Friday night to 1A-SD 3, 6-player-rival Crow. Details from that contest were also unavailable as of Monday afternoon. The Warriors are scheduled to host Jewell at 7 p.m. Friday night.

Additionally, Taft High School’s scheduled Friday home game against Yamhill-Carlton and Eddyville Charter’s home game last Friday against Alsea were canceled.
