NEWPORT — The Newport High School/Eddyville Charter girls soccer team scored early and often in their Friday nonconference win at Morrow Field over Tillamook.

With the victory, the 4A-3 Oregon West Conference Cubs improved to 2-0-0. In its matches through last weekend, Newport outscored its opponents 7-0. The match was the Cheesemakers’ first contest of the season.

Details from the match were not reported to the News-Times prior to its Monday sports’ deadline.

The Cubs were scheduled to start league play Tuesday at Stayton before they face Woodburn at 6 p.m. Thursday in a second 4A-3 Oregon West Conference match at Morrow Field.

Amity/Western Christian 2, Taft 0

At Lincoln City, the Taft High School girls soccer team finally got its season underway Sept. 9, and dropped a 3A/2A/1A-SD 2 decision, 2-0, to Amity/Western Christian at Voris Field.

Further information from the match was neither provided to the News-Times nor the Lincoln County School District’s game reporting portal prior to deadline.

The Tigers (0-1-0) were scheduled to face Salem Academy/Kennedy on the road Monday before they host Blanchet Catholic at 6:30 p.m. today at Voris Field.
