Central Coast all-depth halibut opens May 21

The spring all-depth Pacific halibut sportfishing season in Oregon’s central coast subarea — which includes ports from Port Orford to Garibaldi — will open May 21. Once the season begins, it will be open on dates scheduled based on public input earlier this year: May 21-23, May 28-31, June 11-13, June 18-20 and July 9-11. Additional all-depth fishing days may be opened later in the spring or summer if quota remains.

  • Summer bowling league starts at Muggly’s

    Summer Time Blues bowling league at Muggly’s Bowling kicked off this week, with a total of eight four-person teams competing. Leading the pack with a 100 percent win-rate is Team Muggly Burger: Norm Carruthers, Dawn Wilding, Jeff WIlding and Patrick White. Second through seventh place are currently held by the six teams with a 50 percent win rate after the first week: respectively, teams Nevada Gold, Strike Force, Rogue-whack a Whale, Springer, Sand Bag Miners and Rolling Rocks. Team Rogue-Hazy Nights rounds out the bottom of the roster with no wins to show for their first week.

Newport 2018 State Track and Field

The Newport track and field competed in the 4A state track and field event at Hayward Field in Eugene on Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12. The Cubs boys team finished seventh while the girl's team finished 21st.
