The Newport/Eddyville Charter boys soccer team came away with a draw and a defeat late last week in a pair of 4A-3 Oregon West Conference matches.
After playing Cascade to a 1-1 tie Oct. 21 at Morrow Field in Newport, the Cubs fell 8-0 on Oct. 23 at top-ranked and undefeated Philomath. No details from either match were reported to the media.
Newport entered Monday’s Oregon West Conference season finale at Sweet Home at 1-6-2 in league and 4-7-2 overall. The Cubs’ lone victory since starting the campaign with three consecutive wins was a 5-0 triumph Sept. 30 at home against Sweet Home (0-9-0. 2-11-0).
Cubs girls lose twice
After dropping a 3-2 decision Oct. 21 at Cascade, the Newport/Eddyville Charter girls soccer team returned home Oct. 23 to Voris Field and fell 4-1 to No. 5 Philomath in 4A-3 Oregon West Conference action.
Newport entered Monday’s final match of the regular season at home against Sweet Home sitting at 3-8-0 in league, 5-8-0 overall and on a four-match losing streak.
Western Christian/Amity boys 3, Taft 1
At Salem, two first half tallies were enough on Oct. 21 to push 10th-ranked Western Christian/Amity past the Tigers in a 3A/2A/1A-SD 2 match.
The defeat, Taft’s second straight to close the regular season, sent the Tigers to 5-3-0 in league matches, 7-5-2 overall. They hosted Yamhill-Carlton in an SD 2 playoff match Monday.
