Last Monday night, the Newport City Council held basically a mock public hearing, as it was obvious that the consensus had been pre-determined. Sadly, there were only a few in the audience to represent their opposition to a $12 million couplet, however, all written statements and over 40 people having signed a petition in opposition were also ignored.

The fix was in, and the subterfuge and misinformation was presented by the city administration, driven by one in particular who seems to be in charge. They also tried to placate the appropriate opposition raised by the Newport Farmers Market concerning removing basically two-thirds of the million-dollar-plus parking lot and border it by a busy, unsafe highway on three sides by saying, “We will keep you in our thoughts.”
