Leland Morton

Leland (Lee) William Morton Jr. was born to Leland W. Morton and Mary Ellen Flescher Morton in Toledo, Oregon on May 5, 1949. He was raised in Yachats, Oregon. He attended school in Yachats and Waldport with a short stint in Langlois, OR.

Lee joined the U.S. Army in 1968. He served in Vietnam. His grandson, Clint Strawser, is attached to Lee’s old unit.

After returning home from the service, Lee was a timber faller and a commercial fisherman in Oregon and Alaska. In 1977, Lee married Dorcas Ann Paul. The couple had three children, Victoria, Esther and Sherri. Dorcas passed away in August of 1999.

In 2009 he moved to Thermopolis, WY where he enjoyed working on a ranch as a ranch hand. He was an avid cribbage player and would play in restaurants with his friends and family. Lee was part of the VFW.

Lee is survived by his mother, Mary Ellen Flescher Morton of Siletz.; his daughter, Victoria Morton of Eugene, OR and her children, Mallisa (and her husband, Logan), William, Brandon and Hunter; daughter, Esther Morton of Warrenton, OR and her children, Clint, Bailey, Eric and Garrett; daughter, Sherri Rice of Portland, OR and her children, Tasoom, Nixa, Koosah, Percy and Napayshni.

Lee also is survived by his great grandchildren, Alison, Michael, Kooshtakah, Melody and a couple more on the way; his siblings, LaRita (Dan) Lundy, Siletz, OR, Lloyd Morton of Yachats, OR, Loraine (Terry) Parker of Lebanon, OR and Lynda (Alberto) Lopez of Albany, OR; and loved by one great aunt and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. He is also survived by his 4 little dogs.

Lee was preceded in death by his father, Leland W Morton Sr. and Dorcas Ann Paul Morton.

There will be a service for Lee at the Thermopolis VFW and at the Yachats Presbyterian Church, with military honors at the Yachats Memorial Park Cemetery, dates and times pending.
