Jessie Stogsdill

Jessie Thomas Stogsdill passed away in his home in Newport, Oregon on April 22, 2021, with his wife Margaret by his side.

He was the seventh of eleven children and was born in Ambrose, Texas on November 20, 1925 to Gracie Ethel and Albert Sherman Stogsdill.

In the early 1950's he moved to Oregon and made a career working for Pacific Power and Light, mostly in Corvallis. He was married to Maggie Dillard Sweetin for 24 years and together they raised five children.

Jess married Margaret Cichy in 1979 and they shared over 40 happy years in each others company, especially during their retirement in Newport, Oregon. He was a long time member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Corvallis, loved to play pool and was an avid bowler. He continued to bowl on a league in Toledo until he turned 93. Jess was also a very proud WWII combat veteran, joining the U.S. Army shortly after his 18th birthday in 1943.

Jess is survived by his wife Margaret; five children, Kathy Stogsdill of Corvallis, Jon Stogsdill and his wife Marian of Fernley, Nevada, Amy Hayden of Springfield, Oregon, Heidi Powers and her husband Scott of Sunriver, and Susan Stogsdill of Corvallis; three step-daughters, JoAnn York-Gilmore and her husband Mark of Anacortes, Washington, Jayne Simmons and her husband Jim of Cornelius, and Julie Palucacos and her husband Tom of Apollo, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his brother Clet Stogsdill of Savoy, Texas and Sister Thresa Smith of Sussex, Wisconsin; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his bothers Roscoe and A.Q., sisters Ova Mae Sappington, Alberta Cravens, Opal Stedham, Jewel Malone, Frances Carr, and Wanda Reeves; son-in-law, Bob Hayden, and grandson, Jason Powers.

A veterans memorial service will be held at the Toledo VFW hall on June 26, 2021 at 12:00.
