Beverly Branson

Beverly Beryl Branson, 91, went to be with the Lord on August 22, 2021. She was residing at Canterbury Inn in Longview, WA at the time of her peaceful passing. Bev was born on September 9, 1929 in Fields Landing, California. She was the first-born child of Adolph Oliver Peterson and Gladys Marie Johansen Peterson. Bev graduated from Waldport High School in Waldport, OR in 1947. She married David W. Branson on February 15, 1953. They began their married life fishing on the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska. Dave and Bev spent a season living in logging camps near Ketchikan, Alaska. A new home was completed in 1963 on South Beavercreek. Dave continued to work in SE Alaska every spring and summer until 1970, with Bev taking care of kids, cows, chickens, geese, dogs, cats, a big garden and orchard.

Bev was very involved in the community, serving others. She served as a 4-H Leader actively leading Cooking and Knitting Clubs. She was involved in Vacation Bible School and served at the Lincoln County Fair while her kids were growing up. She was involved in Home Extension and volunteered at the Newport Senior Center. She loved playing Pinochle on a regular basis. Bev loved knitting and crocheting. She created beautiful afghans, doilies, sweaters, socks, dishcloths, potholders and hats. For several years she made items which were sold at numerous craft shows. She loved working in her garden; each year her vegetable and fruit garden produced enough food for all the neighbors and more. She canned and froze the bounty. A favorite memory are the delicious cinnamon rolls, pies, cakes, applesauce and canned peaches she prepared. Beverly was baptized on November 15, 2015 at the Baptist Church in Newport at age 85. She loved attending church services and Ladies Bible Study.

She is survived by her children Kathy Salyer (Lee), Mari Chambers (Ken), Teri Smith, Lyle Branson (Linda), and 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson; sister Jeanne Reynolds (Jack), and brother David Peterson (Jill); and many nieces and nephews. We all have many fond memories growing up with Beverly. She was preceded in death by her husband David Branson on February 23, 2012, and brother Keith Peterson (Leone).

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to plant a tree in memory of Beverly as she loved nature. She even smuggled a white cedar from Alaska to plant on her property, that still majestically stands along the driveway.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 208 NW 6th St Newport, OR
