The Lincoln County School District on Friday announced changes to the administration at two Newport elementary schools.

Marty Pérez, current assistant principal at Sam Case Elementary School in Newport, will assume the principalship starting July 1. New to the Lincoln County School District from Portland for the 2020-21 school year, Pérez quickly ingrained himself into the community. As its first bicultural and bilingual principal, the district says it is proud to realize efforts to make the administrative team more reflective of the student population.

A University of Oregon graduate and an educator with more 10 years of experience, Pérez is honored to lead the Sam Case Cubs into the 2021-22 school year.

Marcy Doyle will assume the assistant principal position at Sam Case beginning July 1. Since moving to Oregon from Arizona 12 years ago, Doyle has proven to be an accomplished teacher in elementary and reading instruction, National Board Certification, and, most notably, was Oregon Regional Teacher of the Year in 2019.

Doyle brings a kind heart and respectability with staff to her strong instructional knowledge.

The district also announced a new assistant principal at Yaquina View Elementary in Newport. Jackie Hawkins joins the district from Modesto, Calif., where she also served as an assistant principal.  She has a child-first mentality, and her personal experience aging out of the foster care system has given her a unique perspective in serving the community. She received her bachelor of arts in history from California State University, Stanislaus, and taught grades 7-12 in English, history, and English language development.

Hawkins and her husband, Sam, daughter, Raine, and son, Skyler, like to hike and go camping. Hawkins loves to read.

In the main district office, Carol Stock has accepted the position of special programs administrator beginning July 1, with a focus on special education, talented and gifted programs, and disabled student support services.

The district said the position fits well with Stock’s strengths and experience as a special education leader, school psychologist and, most recently, as Yaquina View’s assistant principal.  Stock came to the district in 2015 from North Clackamas School District, where she worked for 11 years as a school psychologist. She has continued to enhance her leadership skills at the building and district level.

Assistant principal positions at Newport Middle School and Waldport Middle/High School remain open.
