A man identified as Chad Edward Goodell, 42, of Siletz was found dead in a burning car on a rural Lincoln County logging road Saturday evening

The Siletz Valley Rural Fire District received a call at 6:55 p.m. Saturday from a Logsden Road resident reporting a car was on fire roughly 2.5 miles up Forest Service Road 500, a public access gravel roadway east of Siletz. SVRFD personnel and deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded, met the caller at a nearby intersection and arrived on scene at approximately 7:20 p.m.

According to a Thursday morning Sheriff’s Office press release, the caller reported there was an individual still inside the vehicle, a Toyota Tacoma, but by the time rescuers arrived it was already engulfed in flames.

The occupant, Goodell, was found deceased inside the vehicle after it was extinguished at approximately 7:40 p.m., before it was able to spread to nearby brush. The site was cleared at approximately 8:12 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Office report states evidence at the scene suggests Goodell was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle before crashing.
