The Oregon Health Authority released information regarding two of the five Lincoln County residents who died with COVID-19 in August.

In addition to the three people who died last month in hospitals outside of Lincoln County, there were two COVID-positive deaths in Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport.

A 57-year-old woman with underlying conditions who tested positive Aug. 22 died in the hospital two days later, and a 75-year-old woman died Aug. 30 after testing positive Aug. 27. The health authority is still confirming whether the latter had any underlying conditions.

Three more deaths of COVID-positive residents have also been reported since Sept. 1. Lincoln County Public Health added those numbers to the county’s tally Sept. 2 and 3 — making 30 total — but health authority hasn’t yet released the age, date of positive tests and date/place of death for those individuals.

The county health department said in a Facebook post the health authority is still reviewing COVID status and underlying conditions, and it is behind on reporting that information.

There were 140 new COVID cases reported in the county Sept. 1 through 3, although the hospitals saw a reprieve from their all-time high of 10 COVID inpatients at the end of April. There was one COVID patient in the hospital Sept. 2, and one of three hospitalized COVID patients on Sept. 3 was in intensive care.
