A two-vehicle crash near milepost 152 on Highway 101 just south of Seal Rock resulted in one death and two injuries as one car left the center lane and collided head-on with another Sunday evening.
According to a press release issued by the Oregon State Police, state troopers and local emergency responders arrived at the crash at approximately 6:23 p.m. Sunday to find that a Toyota Corolla, driven by Michael Noel, 59, of Waldport, had crossed over the centerline and crashed head on into a Mercedes GLK SUV, operated by Lorrie Ann Owens, 54, of Waldport. Norma Parry, 78, was in the passenger’s seat of the SUV.
Noel sustained fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, while Owens and Parry were trapped inside the SUV, which had rolled into a nearby ditch. Owens and Parry were both extricated from the crashed vehicle and taken to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport with injuries.
The incident shut down Highway 101 and a detour route was set up for approximately five hours following the crash.
