The annual Kid’s Fishing Derby at First Baptist Church of Waldport was this past Saturday, May 20. This fishing derby has been an annual event in Waldport for the past 27 years, and this was my family’s second year attending. There was of course the fishing derby itself, which was held directly across the street from the church at Eckman Lake’s Nelson Wayside State Park with the help of ODFW and other sponsors and volunteers, but there was so much more too.

Once at the church, my family and I were greeted by dozens of smiling faces directing us inside to register our little ones, at which time the kids were given goodie bags and raffle tickets for the raffles that were happening every 30 minutes for prizes that were donated by various businesses throughout our central Oregon coast community.
