The Newport Public Library issued a reminder recently of a number of programs aimed at keeping library patrons engaged during the ongoing COVID restrictions.
Do you use Library Take Out? — Life is better with books, movies and music from your library. Place holds online or over the phone, and you will be notified when they’re available. Pick up items as soon as possible, preferably on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Items will be held for a week and a half from when they arrive at the library.
Lincoln County Reads — Join the first Lincoln County Reads countywide reading program by reading “Circe,” by Madeline Miller. Copies can be reserved at the Newport Public Library through the online catalog or by calling the library at 541-265-2153. There will be a virtual author talk on Sunday, April 25, from 3 to 4 p.m. Registration is required and can be done at https://tinyurl.com/p4k36dpm
It’s (Finally) 2021 Reading Challenge — The It’s (Finally) 2021 Reading Challenge encourages people to switch up their usual reading habits and explore what the library has to offer. After reading a book, eBook or audiobook in each of the first 33 categories, turn in a reading challenge ticket for prizes. The reading challenge goes through Dec. 31.
Virtual Preschool Art Display — The library will be featuring artwork from local preschools in the area. This month features ABC Kindergarten. To view the art, go to http://ow.ly/QuO650CA3SI
Book Bingo — Book Bingo is for anyone ages 18 and under. Just pick up a bingo card during Library Take Out hours and complete the whole board by May 31 for a prize.
STEAM Take Away Kits — The library is offering STEAM inspired takeaway activities to pick up during Library Take Out hours: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. This month they are doing neighborhood mapping and bingo activities, while supplies last. These kits are best for ages 11 and under.
Teen Take Away Kits — The library is offering take away kits for teens ages 12-18. This month they are doing graham cracker allergy houses, while supplies last. Kits can be picked up during Library Take Out hours.
Adult Take Away Kits — The library is offering take away kits for adults. This month is a poetry kit. Kits can be picked up during Library Take Out hours.
The Reading Circle — Monthly meetings are now held via Zoom on the second Tuesday of the month at noon. The reading circle will next meet on May 11 to discuss prizewinning books. Library Wi-Fi — Free Wi-Fi is available from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, in the library parking lots.
Library Trivia Night — All are invited to the virtual Newport Public Library Trivia Night on Zoom on Thursday, May 6, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Work your brain, win prizes and show your knowledge about all things related to pop culture, contemporary and classic authors and music.
