Improvements are underway at the Toledo Cemetery on Arcadia Drive. Above, Tom Runions spreads rock in the new parking area. Tony Molina, president of the nonprofit Toledo Cemetery Association, said, “We’ve been waiting many, many years to create a parking lot and a different section down low to have more plots to sell — we have no plots to sell. So it’s an expansion that’s taken a long time to get to this point.” There has also been a new road created to provide access to the lower section of the cemetery, which is located on a rolling hillside. This road will allow access for a hearse and other equipment used for a burial, as well as make it easer for people to walk to the lower elevation. Molina said people involved with the cemetery association are all volunteers. “Nobody is paid. It’s taken a long time to acquire monies.” He said financial support would be welcome, and anyone willing to make a donation can contact him by emailing or calling 541-444-2828. Donations can also be mailed to the association at PO Box 894, Toledo, OR 97391. (Photos by Steve Card)
