Dust off your poodle skirt and saddle shoes and step back into the 1950s this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 5 and 6, during a fundraising event for Grace Wins Haven, the Newport resource center and advocacy organization for people without housing.
The two-day event will be held at the Grocery Outlet parking lot, 721 N Coast Highway, in Newport. Money raised will help to acquire and fund a permanent warming center and shelter in Newport for people without housing.
The event includes a sock hop with recorded music and an Elvis impersonator from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday evening at Grocery Outlet. Saturday’s all-day event will include a pancake breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m., a car show from noon to 6 p.m., vendors and food booths, a bubble show, costume contests, and kid’s games. The Newport/Oregon Coast Community Drum Circle will perform twice, from noon to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m., and “Elvis” will perform again from 2 to 4 p.m.
Advance tickets (purchase online at Etix.com) are $10 each or $30 for a family of four. At the door, tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for kids 12 and under. Bring a toy or canned food and receive a discount for admission to the event.
