selling-tuna

Seafood doesn’t get much fresher than when purchased directly from fishing boats, and a popular item among locals and visitors alike is fresh tuna, which is now available at a number of locations, including from these two boats located at Port Dock 7 in Newport. Anyone who would like to learn more about local seafood can take advantage of a Shop at the Dock tour organized by Oregon Sea Grant and Oregon State University Extension Service. Tours provide an in-depth look at the different types of fishing vessels, what they fish for and how they catch fish, sustainability efforts, and how people can buy fresh fish directly from the fishermen selling it off their boats. Tours are scheduled for two more Fridays — Aug. 12 and Aug. 19. Learn more about them online at seagrant.oregonstate.edu/outreach-and-engagement/shop-dock (Photo by Steve Card)
