Theatre West is issuing an audition call for its production of “Outside Mullingar,” a drama by John Patrick Shanley. The director is Debby Rhein.

Auditions will be held at Theatre West on Sunday and Monday, Jan 9 and 10, at 7 p.m. Rehearsals and performances will be at Theatre West. The play will run from March 17 to April 9 and will be presented on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. A Sunday matinee date is yet to be determined.

The cast consists of four women and two men.

The Story: Anthony and Rosemary are two introverted misfits straddling 40. Anthony has spent his entire life on a cattle farm in rural Ireland, a state of affairs that, due to his painful shyness, suits him well. Rosemary lives right next door, determined to have him, watching the years slip away. With Anthony’s father threatening to disinherit him and a land feud simmering between their families, Rosemary has every reason to fear romantic catastrophe. But then, in this very Irish story with a surprising depth of poetic passion, these yearning, eccentric souls fight their way toward solid ground and some kind of happiness. “Outside Mullingar” is a compassionate, delightful work about how it’s never too late to take a chance on love.

In addition to cast, crew members are needed. These include a stage manager, stage crew and light and sound technician. To help with one of these, attend one of the auditions sessions and introduce yourself to the director. Or go to the website — www.theatrewest.com/membership — and complete the membership form and let Theatre West know how you would like to volunteer.
