Artwork by Sandy Shepard, of Pacific City, is being featured in the Coastal Oregon Visual Artist Showcase at the Newport Visual Arts Center.

The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts presents the exhibition “The Call from Within,” by Pacific City artist Sandy Shepard, through May 29 in the Coastal Oregon Visual Artist Showcase (COVAS) at the Newport Visual Arts Center.

Shepard is showing small oil and cold wax paintings, as well as pastel paintings. The COVAS Showcase represents artists from Oregon’s seven coastal counties, and Shepard is representing Tillamook County.

Shepard has participated in numerous juried and non-juried exhibitions throughout Alaska and the Pacific Northwest over the past 25 years. She has had shows with the Alaska Watercolor Society (Anchorage), The Blueberry Arts Festival (Ketchikan), the Lincoln City Arts Group and Something Red (Salem). Shepard is an active member of the Ketchikan Arts and Humanities Council, the Silverton Arts Association and the Lincoln City Arts Council. She has received arts training at the Portland Art Museum and the Ketchikan Community College.

Given current COVID-19 guidelines, the Newport Visual Arts Center, located at 777 NW Beach Drive, is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from noon to 4 p.m. The VAC adheres to all health and safety protocols provided by the governor’s office as well as the city of Newport. All visitors are required to wear proper masks and have their temperature taken prior to entry.

The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts manages the Newport Visual Arts Center and the Newport Performing Arts Center and serves as the regional arts council for Oregon’s seven coastal counties.
