Newport High School received a bomb threat early Tuesday afternoon, prompting administrators to evacuate all students to Newport Middle School. Students who took the bus home did so from Newport Middle School and those who did not were held at the middle school until Newport Police searched and cleared the building.
Superintendent Karen Gray sent a statement recapping that information to parents, and the Newport Police Department gave the all clear before 3:30 p.m. that day.
Sam Case Elementary went into code yellow protocols during the evacuation at NHS as a precaution, but the threat did not involve the elementary school. Buses were delayed at Sam Case, but students were sent home by their usual methods.
