In April 2020, the Newport Paper & Book Arts Festival will pass a milestone and celebrate its 25th anniversary. As a fundraiser to celebrate and support the festival’s continued growth, the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts is offering “Making Art Cards,” a workshop led by Cheri Aldrich, a local artist and longtime festival participant.
The workshop sessions will be Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Newport Visual Arts Center, with two classes to choose from: 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The workshop registration fee is $50, and there is an additional $5 materials fee. Workshop participants only need to bring a glue stick, scissors, ruler and pencil. The registration from can be found at https://forms.gle/4sCtCs4RJ9qEG5w56. Class size is limited to 20 per session. Registration closes Oct. 14.
Aldrich is donating her time and instructor fees for these two workshops. “I have a great fondness for this festival. I have been involved as a participant, an instructor, and for many years, as a coordinator or consultant,” she said. “It’s been a joy to watch it grow into a popular, much-loved annual event. The energy from this event inspires many to make art. By doing some fundraising, we will be able to expand our budget allowing us to add a fourth day to the 2020 festival.”
OCCA expressed appreciation to Aldrich for her time, donation and dedication to the Newport Paper & Book Arts Festival. Other festival supporters and participants will soon be provided with opportunities to become “Friends of the Festival,” lending their support to the project’s long-term sustainability.
