Yachats man found not guilty of attempted murder

Modified: Friday, Aug 29th, 2014

NEWPORT A Yachats man was found not guilty of attempted murder as a 12-person jury reached verdicts on a list of charges in Lincoln County Circuit Court on Friday.

The jury began its deliberations in the trial of Anthony Buccella late Thursday afternoon, continuing into the evening. Jurors reconvened Friday morning, reaching their verdicts around 11 a.m.

Buccella was also found not guilty on a charge of assault in the second degree.

The charges against Buccella stem from an incident on March 16 when he broke into the home of his former girlfriend, and he was accused of chasing her through the home and stabbing her with a knife.

Buccella was found guilty on several lesser charges related to the incident. The verdicts were read by Judge Sheryl Bachart.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 11.
