NEWPORT — Newport Police Volunteer Association members have been visiting the Bayfront more often this summer in an effort to provide additional patrol assistance to the Newport Police Department, as well as to interact with visitors to the area.

Volunteers Wayde and Barb Dudley park the police department’s incident response vehicle and set up a table in the city parking lot next to Trident Seafoods each Tuesday afternoon. There, they hand out information about local attractions and resources to people, and they also serve to increase the police department’s presence during the busy months of summer.

“Basically, we’re public relations. Ask us. We speak Newport,” Barb said. “This is our first year doing this, but it has been very successful.”
