NEWPORT — The Newport City Council race for three positions in the Nov. 4 general election became a little more heated today with the filing of Dennis Reno, who was fired as the city’s airport manager in October 2009.
Reno filed a $750,000 wrongful termination claim against the city in May 2010, and settled the lawsuit for $210,000 in December 2010.
Former mayor and council member Bill Bain, who was named in the lawsuit, filed for the council on Friday. Sitting council members David Allen, Dick Beemer and Mark Saelens have also filed for re-election.
The three candidates with the most votes will fill the three positions, beginning in January 2015. The filing deadline 5 p.m. today.For the complete article see the 08-27-2014 issue.
