Democratic Party chair seeking Toledo mayoral post

Modified: Tuesday, Aug 26th, 2014

TOLEDO — With the deadline nearing fast, Lincoln County Democratic Party Chair Billie Jo Smith has filed for mayor alongside current Mayor Ralph Grutzmacher.

Grutzmacher, who’s also been a city councilor and council president, has served as mayor since September of 2010 when he was appointed, later being elected to his first full term in 2012.

"Toledo is a wonderful place to live and work, and potentially has an even better future," he said in a press release. "I have made it my mission since joining the city government to bring more recognition of Toledo's beauties and strengths from the wider Oregon community while working for the improvements we need right here.”

With more than 30 years of local government experience, including a position as

attorney and legislative officer at Prince George's County in Maryland, Grutzmacher said he believes his leadership has already been a “tremendous help” and will continue to be so.
