TOLEDO — Initial concerns about a new fish plant in Toledo after the town’s rough history with another company seemed to completely fade to the background Friday during the grand opening of Fishpeople Seafood’s tuna processing site.

A large crowd, including local politicians like state Rep. David Gomberg and Lincoln County Commissioners Doug Hunt and Bill Hall, gathered to sample the food and tour the new facility that has brought eight fresh jobs with it to the small town.

“I think it is going to be great,” resident Bev Ray said. “I’ve lived here all my life and knew we needed more (businesses).”

Ray had never had a Fishpeople Seafood meal until she tried three different dishes on Friday, noting she enjoyed each one.

CEO Duncan Berry said they’re working to squash those misconceptions about convenient seafood having to “lose something” when it comes to flavor.

Fishpeople Seafood, he added, focuses on offering sustainable and healthy seafood dishes that are also affordable and convenient in made-to-go pouches – food that can be eaten “anywhere, anytime,” he said.
