LINCOLN COUNTY Traffic near milepost 18 along Highway 20 was temporarily reduced to one lane while Legacy Contracting, Inc. worked to put a temporary detour bridge in place adjacent to the historic Chitwood Bridge on Tuesday afternoon.

The temporary bridge, weighing 45,000 pounds, is made from an old railroad car and will serve as a detour used mainly by residents through November.

Restoration repairs are being done to the covered bridge, including new siding and roofing materials along with repair work to the trusses.
