Silvers strike

Steve Allard of Scio, Ore., hoists a 28-inch coho salmon slated for the fillet table in Depoe Bay harbor on Sunday. Allard and his fishing mates found the strike zone nine miles west of the harbor entrance, rotating the colors of their hoochie-and-spoon rigs until the hold of their 24-foot runabout was filled with silvers. State game officials predicted a banner year for salmon fishing, a forecast that is holding up well under pressure from the sport fleet. Its been mostly limits to speak of, even though we may land as many as 40 clipped-fin fish that have to be thrown back, said Tim Harmon, owner of Tradewinds Charters of Depoe Bay.
