National Night Out brings together community, police

TOLEDO — Sirens blasted and lights flashed, but no one was under arrest Tuesday night at Toledo’s Skate Park when police made their presence known.

Rather, it was a time for officers and community members to come together as the Toledo Police Department put on demonstrations and set up booths for National Night Out.

“What it basically is, is a chance for the community to come out and get to know the officers,” said Sgt. Mike Pace, who added the idea is to learn about what police do and how the community can help.

“America’s Night Out Against Crime” is designed to strengthen police/community partnerships, and send the message that neighborhoods are fighting back against crime.
