Plea deal near in former county employee’s case

Modified: Friday, Aug 8th, 2014

NEWPORT — The framework of a plea agreement surfaced Thursday for a Waldport man, who allegedly helped himself to Lincoln County Employees Association funds at the tail end of winter.

Brain David Fine, 25, is facing six counts of theft in the first degree stemming from his role in the disappearance of an undisclosed amount of money from the employees association bank account.

Each of the counts reflects different incident dates ranging from Feb. 3 to March 21.

Defense attorney Mitchell Martin said the settlement is kind of different, and could require some more time to complete. But the offer on the table from state prosecutors calls for Fine to plead guilty to four counts of theft in the first degree.
