Modified: Monday, Aug 11th, 2014

High Desert Aggregate and Paving will start running trucks Aug. 19 from its temporary asphalt plant located southeast of the U.S. 101-SE 40th Street intersection to the airport.

NEWPORT — The reconstruction project at Newport Municipal Airport will kick into high gear in about 10 days when as many as 120 trucks a day will begin hauling barrels of hot liquid asphalt along Highway 101 over a two-week period.

Beginning on Aug. 19, High Desert Aggregate and Paving will start running trucks from its temporary asphalt plant located southeast of the U.S. 101-SE 40th Street intersection to the airport.

Melissa Roman, the city’s project leader for the airport reconstruction, informed about a dozen neighborhood residents and stakeholders attending a public meeting Wednesday that as many as 12 trucks will be operating hourly from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. between Aug. 19 and Sept. 2.

She estimated that a truck would leave the plant every six minutes, with the last truck of each day exiting the asphalt plant at 6 p.m., and returning 90 minutes later.
