DEPOE BAY — A city councilor whose residency has baffled critics will challenge Mayor A.J. Mattila in the November election.
Steven “Skip” Hoitink, who survived an attempt by other councilors to expel him from office after he acknowledged moving to Newport, filed election paperwork last week at Depoe Bay City Hall.
“He has been approved to circulate a petition for mayor,” acknowledged City Recorder Pery Murray, who said it takes at least 20 signatures of valid voters to make the fall ballot. “He filled out all the forms and checked all the boxes.”
