NEWPORT — A man accused in the manslaughter of a Newport resident appears headed to trial barring a last-minute plea agreement with prosecutors.
Donald Richard Lawyer III, 35, of York, Pa., stands accused of manslaughter in the first degree, and manslaughter in the second degree in connection with the death of Michael Lanpheare in April.
Defense attorney Mitchell Martin said Monday he is “waiting to hear back from two experts.” He divulged little else in his remarks at a brief Monday hearing in Lincoln County Circuit Court before Judge Thomas Branford.
Lawyer did not appear for the hearing. He is being held on $400,000 bail at Lincoln County Jail.
