WALDPORT — For Capt. Jonny Rush, his bus, named the Red Dog Nautical, is his ship, and the highway is his ocean.

“Capt. Jonny,” as he likes to be called, travels throughout the Pacific Northwest selling frozen, all-natural fish, like halibut, salmon and sea bass. With a bright red bus decorated with trinkets, masks and metal art, along with his big personality, Capt. Jonny is hard to miss.

The former commercial fisherman has stopped off in Waldport, where he says he will stay for the next week and a half or so. The Red Dog Nautical is parked in the parking lot of the old American Inn & Suites along Highway 101. Capt. Jonny can usually be found inside — a handwritten sign hanging on the side door of the bus instructs visitors to “Knock on door.”
