Scofflaws ignore mandatory pickup ordinance

LINCOLN CITY — City councilors approved a modest rate increase for garbage service Monday, and set the stage to reign in freeloaders who ignore a mandatory pickup ordinance.

Otherwise, town leaders hailed the efforts of North Lincoln Sanitary Service to provide garbage and recycling services to more than 6,000 residential and commercial customers in Lincoln City.

Last year, trucks from the firm collected nearly 8,500 tons of garbage destined for a giant landfill near Corvallis. Another 3,000 tons of recyclables and 1,500 tons of woody yard debris were also collected.
