Summer program offers free food for children

LINCOLN COUNTY — Nikki is recently divorced with a minimum wage job and two young children to take care of.

That’s why she takes advantage of Lincoln County’s Summer Food Service Program, sponsored by the Lincoln County School District.

“It’s really been a struggle the past few months,” she said. “We could make it by without the program, but it’s just a big help.”

The program is meant to fill a gap over summer months when youth no longer get those school lunches five days a week.

About 72 percent of LCSD children are on free or reduced lunch.
