NEWPORT — The Newport City Council’s repeal Monday night of its moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries in the city is expected to attract several applicants who can begin seeking business licenses on Aug. 20.

“People can begin submitting their business license applications on the 20th and then we’ll go from there,” said City Manager Spencer Nebel after the council unanimously repealed the temporary ban it had imposed on April 7.

Waldport is the only city in Lincoln County that currently allows such facilities throughout its municipal jurisdiction. Lincoln City also allows dispensaries in specific non-commercial districts.
