OCCC students struggling without financial aid

NEWPORT — A single mom of two, Katie Collson isn’t 100 percent sure yet what she’s going to do about paying her summer utilities.

She and Oregon Coast Community College staff are scrambling to find options. Because of a gap in financial aid distribution, those who depend on the aid over the summer to help with living arrangements are facing unforeseen challenges.

So what happened?

On June 30, OCCC’s accreditation under Clatsop Community College came to an end and the transition to Portland Community College accreditation coverage began, and the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) requested more information.
