Newport man gets 70 months prison for kidnapping

Modified: Sunday, Jul 20th, 2014

NEWPORT — A Newport man was sentenced to 70 months in state prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to kidnapping an elementary school girl outside her residence last year.

Jesse Greene, 28, was sanctioned at a hearing in Lincoln County Circuit Court before Judge Sheryl Bachart. His plea agreement covered one count of kidnapping in the second degree.

The Measure 11 offense called for a mandatory sentence of 70 months in state prison. In exchange for his guilty plea, the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office dismissed five other charges, including attempted rape in the first degree.

“I made a mistake,” said Greene during a brief address at the plea and sentence hearing attended by members of the victim’s family.
