LCSD superintendent’s top priority is student learning

NEWPORT — New Lincoln County School District Superintendent Steve Boynton has spent his first two weeks “getting to know staff, the district and the schools.”

He actually began spending time with former Superintendent Tom Rinearson back in April and said Rinearson left the district in “a good place” that he wants to push further.

Now that he’s got his foot in the door, one of the top priorities is making sure staff has “a very good understanding of the Common Core;” what they’re facing and how it will be assessed.

The new state standards are geared toward problem solving that could help prepare both students gearing up for college and those who want to go right into a job, he said. Critical thinking, being able to think at a higher level, is a desirable trait for both employers and colleges, he added.
