Members of U.S. Coast Guard Station Depoe Bay passed the torch Monday on a three-mile stretch of Highway 101 during a run to support Special Olympics. Under escort by a Lincoln County Sheriff's deputy, a Lincoln County Animal Services officer and firefighters aboard an engine from the Depoe Bay Fire District, the column of twos ran from Rocky Creek State Park to Boiler Bay Wayside the final leg of an event that began near the Oregon-California border by shipmates from Station Chetco River on July 8. Runners included Senior Chief David Pierias, Ben Pierias, BMC Carlos Hessler, MK1 Jared Hirsch, BM1 Matthew Sprague, BM2 Nathan Jakubowski, BM2 Anthony Kopshever, Andrea Kopsheaver, BM2 Matthew Pullen, BM3 Danielle Holland, BM3 Justin McKenna, SNBM Tyler Newman, SN Heather Brown and SN Matthew Row. The escort included Patrick Ganz of the Depoe Bay Fire District, LCSO Deputy Patrick Dougherty and Animal Control Officer Kerri Tyler.
