Modified: Thursday, Jul 17th, 2014

Residential real estate transactions climbed to 342 in the first six months of 2014. That was up about 8.6 percent from the 315 residential sales in the first six months of 2013. The value of those deals was $86.77 million in the first half of the year, up about 7.9 percent from $80.44 million in the same period last year. (News-Times file photo)

NEWPORT — When Frank and Kimberly Onions moved to the central Oregon coast from Northern California in the fall, the couple was facing a tight deadline brought on by a job transfer.

So the couple did what a lot of other people do in those kinds of circumstances; they found a place to rent while Frank settled in at his mail carrier position with the United States Post Office.

“It was hurry up and rush,” said Kimberly on the relocation effort to Lincoln County from Corning, Calif.

But it didn’t take long for Frank and Kimberly to start looking for a home to buy. Working in the couple’s favor was they had vacationed on the central Oregon coast and planned to retire in the region when the time was right.

“We started looking even though we were paying rent,” said Kimberly on the infancy of their search earlier this year for a home to buy in the region.
